Dental Health New Year's Resolutions

As we step into the new year, it's a perfect moment to think about our routines and embrace positive changes. But while you’re setting resolutions, don’t forget your dental health!

Blank desk calendar open to January

Dr. Daniel Baker of City Point Dental is personally a big fan of goals (ask him about some of the crazy ones he’s set for himself over the years!) He’s pumped to help you figure out the best goals for you to keep your teeth and gums healthy and hopefully minimize the need for more serious dental work this year. This is your year for a confident smile!

Prioritize regular dental checkups

It doesn’t matter if it’s been 6 months or 6 years since your last appointment, we are 100% supportive of you jumping back into regular cleanings and exams.

Promise yourself to make regular dental checkups a priority, because they’re crucial for preventing serious health issues like gum disease and tooth decay. These exams allow your dentist to detect any potential issues early and provide preventative care (which is cheaper and less intense than restorative care you’ll likely need down the line if things go untreated).

Dr. Baker, your go-to dentist in Hopewell, recommends a checkup every six months to ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy.

Adopt a comprehensive oral care routine

Another resolution that takes minimal effort for maximal results is committing to a solid at-home oral care routine. A comprehensive oral care routine goes beyond just brushing your teeth twice a day (for two minutes!) It includes flossing daily, using a mouthwash, and changing your soft-bristled toothbrush regularly. Also, consider using an electric toothbrush, as they are known to clean way more effectively than manual ones. Remember, your oral health is tied to your overall health, so make this resolution a priority!

Improve your diet for better dental health

Your diet plays a significant role in your dental health (and by diet we just mean your nutrition! We’re not talking about weight loss here.) Consuming too many sugary or acidic foods can lead to tooth decay and other dental issues. This year, resolve to improve your diet by including more teeth-friendly foods like fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. Not only will this benefit your dental health, but it can also help you feel great!

Quit smoking to protect your oral health

If you smoke, quitting is probably the most significant resolution you can make for your dental (and overall!) health. Smoking not only stains your teeth but also increases your risk of gum disease and oral cancer. It's never too late to quit, and doing so will significantly improve your oral health and quality of life. You’ve got this!

Make dental health a priority this year

This year, make your dental health a priority. Whether it's scheduling regular checkups, improving your oral care routine, eating a healthier diet, or quitting smoking, every step counts.
